Before you pass away, make sure to cancel your credit cards! Given the current state of customer service, this is priceless and easy to visualize!
After a woman passed away in January, ANZ Bank charged her credit card for the months of February and March for annual service fees. They then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance, which had been zero dollars, is now approximately six dollars.
A member of the family called the ANZ Bank:
Family member:
“I’m calling to let you know she passed away in January.”
ANZ:
“The late fees and charges still apply because the account was never closed.”
Relative:
“Maybe you should give it to collections,” I said.
ANZ:
‘Since it is two months past due, it as of now has been.’
Family member:
So, when they find out she is dead, what will they do?’
ANZ:
‘Either report her record to the fakes division or report her to
the credit authority, perhaps both!’
Relative:
“Do you believe God will be furious with her?”
ANZ:
“Excuse me? ”
Relative:
‘Did you simply get everything that I was saying to you .. . . What about the part about her death?’
ANZ:
“Sir, you’ll need to talk to my supervisor,” she said.
The manager answers the phone:
Family member:
“I’m calling to let you know she passed away in January.”
ANZ:
“The late fees and charges still apply because the account was never closed.”
Family member:
“You mean you want to get money from her estate?” I asked.
ANZ:
“Are you her lawyer?” (Stammer)
Family member:
“No, I’m her great-grandson.”
(Information about the lawyer is provided) ANZ:
“Could you fax us a death certificate?”
Relative:
‘Sure.’
(The fax number is provided) When they receive the fax:
ANZ:
Our system is simply not designed to kill. I have no idea what else I can do to help.’
Family member:
“Well, great if you figure it out! If not, you could simply continue to bill her. I doubt she will be bothered…’ ANZ:
‘Indeed, the late expenses and charges in all actuality do in any case apply.’
Family member:
Would you like her to use your new billing address?
ANZ:
“That might help.”” A member of the family:
Sydney’s Rookwood Memorial Cemetery is located at 1249 Centenary Road. Number 1049 of the plot.’
ANZ:
“Sir, that’s a graveyard!”
Family member:
“Well, what the f*** do you do with people who have died on YOUR planet?”
